API Usage Policies

Rate limits

To help maintain API availability and performance for all customers, each customer API credential is initially limited to 60 requests per minute.

If you exceed this limit, requests may be temporarily rejected with an HTTP 429 Too Many Requests response. Please reduce your request rate before retrying.

These limits may be reviewed and adjusted as service usage and capacity evolve.

Production access

Production access is currently provided through API credentials issued by Simpson Strong-Tie. To request access, use the Request Access form.

Storage and caching of returned engineering results

The API may cache engineering results for up to 60 minutes to improve response times.

  • Results are cached per request. The cache key is the combination of request parameters and request body. Sending the exact same request again within the cache window may return the cached result. Any change to the parameters or body triggers a new calculation

  • A cached result is cleared when its 60-minute period expires, or earlier when the underlying data (such as product or design data) is updated. Responses therefore always reflect the latest data.

  • API-side caching is managed by the service. No action is required from customers to use this caching mechanism.
